Basic Purpose

Assist the Manager, UX with optimizing the digital channels user (member) experience, and ensuring goals and objectives are met by effectively utilizing technology and design methodologies. Lead a team of designers by developing creative guidelines, directing the delivery of engaging and on-brand user-centered solutions, and compelling visual and interaction designs. Define User Experience (UX) goals and develop and/or recommend comprehensive research plans and process. Drive for improved UX through end to end analysis and evaluation of applications. Develop and recommend design practices and provide expert guidance to team members and business partners in designing/developing with an end user focus.


• Lead researchers, designers, and project managers to drive understanding of end-to-end experiences and issues to include creating and applying UX models such as scenarios or personas
• Collaborate with project teams and designers to define the user experience strategy
• Ensure and evaluate application of design practices and quantitative and/or qualitative methodologies when conducting research
• Influence product design and implementation and ensures customer engagement
• Communicate UX research and benchmarking to team members and internal business partners to ensure accurate reporting Analyze and adapt design methodology based on the product, channel, audience, and the application requirements or workflow
• Direct the creation of and or create wireframes, prototypes and visual comps for testing to ensure design meets business objectives Investigate and resolve discrepancies by actively collaborating and communicating across business lines
• Serve as subject matter expert for user insights and design inspiration and recommends user experience improvement opportunities
• Identify areas of improvement; determine solutions; implement enhancements/changes to improve operations, standards and results
• Ensure project deliverables are met in accordance with customers' expectations, timelines & budget constraints
• Lead teams through the Development Lifecycle for multiple projects in various phases ensuring IT deliverables meet design expectations
• Incorporate and leverage best industry practices while maintaining alignment with Navy Federal goals and capabilities
• Perform supervisory/managerial responsibilities
 o Set direction to ensure goals and objectives align with corporate and division strategy
 o Select management and other key personnel; oversee talent development/succession planning
 o Collaborate with leadership/executive colleagues to develop/execute corporate initiatives and/or department strategy
 o Oversee the preparation and execution of department/division AFP
 o Manage merit pay in accordance with specified objectives and guidelines
• Perform other related duties as assigned


• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, User-Centered Design/Human-Computer Interaction, a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
• Advanced skill in results-oriented leadership in a challenging environment
• Experience supervising and leading employees Advanced skill maintaining accuracy with attention to detail and meeting deadlines
• Advanced skill making sound organizational and operational decisions
• Advanced knowledge of User Experience design principles and ability to apply them Significant experience with design fundamentals, such as color theory, typography and composition
• Advanced knowledge of user centered design processes and best practices Experience applying sophisticated programming languages and system technologies
• Advanced knowledge of PC and web/internet based technologies e.g. HTML, trends/issues, management, editing/authoring tools and development
• Significant experience translating business requirements into technical solutions Advanced skill collaborating with various external and internal technical and/or functional contacts
• Advanced skill to influence, negotiate and persuade to reach agreeable exchange and positive outcomes
• Experience managing cross-functional, multi-dimensional teams and projects of the highest complexity which have business risk and impact
• Effective skill communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills
• Desired - Human Factors Institute Certified Analyst
• Desired - PMP Certification or the equivalent experience
• Desired – Working knowledge of Navy Federal products, services, programs, policies and procedures
• Desired – Working knowledge of Navy Federal’s functions, philosophy, operations and organizational objectives
• Desired – Working knowledge of Navy Federal’s Project Portfolio Management (PPM)
