Teller responsibilities include providing quality member service and handling all member transactions accurately and efficiently. Tellers contribute directly to the achievement of sales by cross selling credit union products and services as well as recognizing opportunities to make referrals to appropriate branch staff. Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills to represent the credit union in a positive manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
1. Assumes responsibility for the efficient, effective, and accurate performance of Teller functions.
a. Represents the Credit Union in a courteous and professional manner.
b. Receives share deposits in person, by mail, night drop, or ATM.
c. Receives loan payments in person, by mail, or night drop.
d. Processes cash advances, loan advances, cashiers’ checks, bank checks, money orders, government bonds, and similar transactions.
e. Disburses cash or check share withdrawals in person, by telephone, or by mail.
f. Balance teller drawer, checks and vaults daily. Checks must be imaged [daily] in addition to the aforementioned.
g. Processes assigned General Ledger (GL) transactions, including but not limited to gift cards, ATM settlement, stamp sales etc.
h. Follow established policies/procedures and guidelines for verification of transactions; including but not limited to verification of identification, account holders, and signatures. Monitors deposit amounts and acts in accordance with policies and procedures.
i. Use proper verification system(s) when accepting negotiable instruments. Detects and resolves discrepancies promptly.
2. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective, professional business relations with members.
a. Ensures that members' requests and questions are promptly resolved.
b. Provides in person, by telephone, or by mail, such information as members may authorize concerning their account status.
c. Maintain member accounts and conduct account maintenance as determined by policies/procedures.
d. Ensures all members are informed of Credit Union products and services including eligibility for membership, types of available accounts and other related services and information. Make appropriate referrals based on member need.
e. Maintains privacy of member account information.
f. Adhere to established service expectations.
3. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members and management.
a. Assists team members as needed.
b. Keeps supervisor informed of departmental/branch activities and of any significant problems or concerns.
c. Completes required reports and records accurately and promptly.
d. Attends meetings as required.
4. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
a. Ensures that work area is clean, well maintained, and secure.
b. Performs related clerical duties as required.

2. Negotiable Instruments are processed accurately. Cash is balanced and any discrepancies promptly resolved. A balancing record that meets established service expectations is maintained.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: High school graduate
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of Teller policies and procedures.
Basic understanding of Credit Union operations.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Abilities generally acquired on the job in 12 months.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: Good communication skills.
Professional appearance, dress, and attitude.
Good math skills.
Ability to operate related computer applications and business equipment including adding machine, typewriter, copy machine, coin and money counting machines, and telephone.
Good typing skills.
